How to help someone on their computer remotely
When someone calls with a computer problem, seeing their screen saves a trip and a lot of "what does it say now?". This is how it works with Beej Connect, from the first call to the fix, usually in under a minute.
What you need
- Two Windows 10 or 11 computers with internet: yours and theirs.
- Beej Connect on both. It's the same app for both sides, from the download page.
- An account for you. Helping family and friends is free with a Personal account. For customers, your company needs the Business plan (free for 14 days).
- The person you're helping doesn't need an account, and never pays.
Step 1: they install Beej Connect
Send them the link connect.beejtechnologies.com.np/download. They click Download for Windows and open the file. It installs in a few seconds and doesn't need an administrator password.
If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", they click More info and then Run anyway.
Step 2: they read you their ID and password
Beej Connect opens on Allow remote support and shows a 9-digit ID and a password. They read both out to you, or click Copy ID and password and paste them into a chat message.
The ID stays the same for that computer. The password changes after every session, so an old one can't be used again.
Step 3: you connect
In your own Beej Connect, signed in, type their ID into Partner ID and their password into Password, then click Connect.
Step 4: they accept
Their screen shows your name and company. They click Accept, and leave Allow them to control my mouse and keyboard ticked if you'll need to do things for them, not just watch.
Step 5: you fix it
- Use their mouse and keyboard as if you were sitting there.
- Send shortcuts your own PC would keep for itself: the Windows key, Alt+Tab, Task Manager, Run.
- Copy text between the two computers, chat, or send a file.
- Switch between their screens if they have more than one.
While you're connected they see a clear sign with buttons to stop your control or end the session. When you're done, end the session; nothing stays open afterwards.
Stay safe
- Only help people who asked you for help. Never ask a stranger to install remote access software.
- If you're the one getting help: only accept a request from someone you contacted yourself. A bank or company that calls you out of the blue asking you to install Beej Connect is a scam. Hang up and tell us.
- For a computer you look after every week, don't ask for the password every time: set up unattended access once instead.
Common questions
Does the other person need an account?
No. Only the person giving help signs in. The person getting help just installs the app and reads out the ID and password.
Is it free?
Helping family and friends is free with a Personal account. Supporting customers is the Business plan, Rs 999 per supporter a month, with a 14-day free trial.
Does it work if they're behind a firewall or on mobile data?
Yes. Beej Connect connects the two computers directly when it can, and through its encrypted relay when a firewall is in the way, including networks that only allow web traffic.
Can I see their screen without them knowing?
No. For this kind of session they always accept first and always see who is connected. Only unattended access, which they set up themselves for a company they trust, works without them accepting each time.
